For a Sad Realization, Click Here

I spend an inordinate amount of time thinking about how to get people to navigate to or through a Web site in a certain way. Visit us now! Learn More! Enter and Win! But what I had never realized before last week is that it has spilled over into my own, personal communications.

For instance, last week I joined an online community of sorts, for professional writers. And someone had posted a question about something that I knew something about, so I posted my answer. And in looking at my answer (the recipient included it in a private e-mail to me), I realized that I have started to write like a Web writer without even knowing it. The clue? A sentence that went something like this: Nick Usborn is a great Web writing resource. Check out his book and other great tips at www.nickusborne.com.”

What’s left? Next I’ll be tracking the conversion rates on the Christmas e-cards I send.
