Today’s Forecast: Not What We Promised Yesterday

Things have been a little quiet here but I swear that doesn’t mean I’m going back to my old non-posting ways. It’s just that since I got back, 10 days ago, Mike has been off, so we’ve been spending actual time together, without doing stuff like landscaping the yard or building an entire new front side of our house. Sure, I had to go back to work this week, but it wasn’t too bad and we had the chance to work in some fun, too.

Today, however, the weather got the best of us. We were going to take the dogs up to the Highwood Pass, because the highway is still closed and if you crawl under the barrier, you can wander up the mountain unencumbered. There aren’t many people there at all, and it’s a safe place for them to run free for a while. We took them last week, in fact, and they had a great time. Len found the best mud puddle ever and, naturally, flopped down in it. Ron ran up and down the road, into the ditch and back up toward us again, working out her poor, stiff, back legs. They were both exhausted on the drive home. It was so much fun, we couldn’t wait to do it again this week, but when we got up to leave it was raining.

So instead we’re enjoying a lazy Sunday. Len is asleep beside me on what I like to call The World’s Ugliest Blanket, and Ron is watching hockey with Mike. It’s not a sunny day of running like hell in the mountains, but I imagine if I throw in a piece of chicken or two they’ll probably be okay.
